Why are we here?

The Bondoc Peninsula towns of Padre Burgos, Agdangan, and Unisan were chosen as our priority areas because development is slower here compared to other municipalities along the national highway but resources in terms of natural and social capital are promising.

Households are not food poor but in case of emergencies or significant expenses like sending their children to college, they will no longer be able to finance these. They are also susceptible to natural hazards as Quezon is frequented by typhoons.

How do we achieve self-sustaining and resilient households in Quezon?

PEF’s work targets two distinct types of households: fisherfolks who typically rely on open sea fishing alone and farmers who are usually tenants and may not be motivated to improve their farms because of the prevailing sharing scheme between them and their landowners. The main strategy is to enable local organizations to deliver income diversification programs.

We will secure the sustainability of results by partnering for interventions on environmental conservation, working with value chain stakeholders, capacitating local organizations which will execute the projects, and supporting replication/expansion activities. We will also work closely with the LGU for us to complement their plans and secure resources and policy changes that mirror the concerns of the fisherfolks.
