PEF Guidelines for Political Conduct

Policy Statement

Since its founding in 2001, PEF has been committed to non-partisanship. While PEF collaborates with national and local government institutions on development initiatives, it avoids partisan activities such as endorsing candidates, soliciting votes, or mobilizing partners and associated organizations for political purposes. Board members, management, and staff are encouraged to engage in the democratic process in a personal capacity only.

Salient Points:

• PEF resources (e.g., funds, time, materials) must not be used for political campaigns or candidate promotion.
• PEF’s name or logo must not appear in any materials or media associated with political parties or candidates. 
• Employees must not use PEF-managed platforms to endorse or discredit political parties or candidates.
• Communications: 
• (a) Official statements will be handled by the Communications team, vetted by the Executive Director
• (b) Media interviews will handled by the Executive Office.
