Serving the heroes of pandemic
Davao City - Our modern-day heroes who are fighting Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continue to be in the frontlines risking their lives to protect us.
As of April 27, the Department of Health has recorded 1,245 COVID-19 infected medical personnel while 89 police personnel were infected according to the Philippine National Police. It is no wonder that there is outpouring of support for our frontline workers.
Organizations such as Davao-based Dana Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of company of Nader & Ebrahim S/O Hassan Philippines, Inc. launched its food ration drive for frontliners on April 6, 2020.
The food ration drive, which will run for one month, will provide safe and nutritious packed lunch to police and medical personnel in Davao del Norte.
“In our own little way, gusto po naming makatulong sa ating pamayanan, lalo na po sa mga frontliners who are at greater risks in this crisis,” Dana Foundation Executive Director Nelben Moreno said.
According to Nelben, they are providing food to 3,400 people per week at the command centers in Sto. Tomas, Kapalong, and Carmen, including workers making face masks.
Farmers are frontliners too
Aside from the medical and police frontliners, Dana is also helping farmers - a vital sector that ensures food supply during this crisis.
Dana and its social enterprise partner, Seges Co-Farming Philippines, has purchased the produce of 60 vegetable farmers who have lost their traditional markets due to quarantine restrictions.
Together with the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF), Dana Foundation also partnered with the local government of Asuncion, Nader & Ebrahim s/o Hassan Philippines, Vizcaya Plantation, Villgro Philippines, Department of Education and the Provincial Agriculture Office for funding and use of facilities.
PEF provided Php 250, 000 for buying of farmers’ produce and transportation for the delivery of meals to the frontliners.
“This is in line with PEF’s disaster relief and risk reduction efforts to assist farmers amidst the Covid19 crisis”, PEF Area Officer Beauty Joie Maymay said.
With Dana Foundation’s project, we can extend our gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our frontliners in our own little way. To support them, please check their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/DanaFoundationInc/ for more details on how to donate to their efforts.
PEF aspires to drive positive change in poor Filipino household communities by investing in social enterprises that will provide them with viable livelihood and better access to basic social services and support their recovery from disasters.
