PEF pours PHP 54 million worth of projects in Mindanao for 2018
The Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF) approved PHP 54.7 million for 22 projects in Mindanao for 2018, a 353% increase from the previous year according to its recently released annual report.
Of these, 20 projects will support cacao, coconut, and coffee production and marketing, as well as basic social services in Mindanao.
The biggest project approvals went to coconut-cacao farm rehabilitation and trading for Laak Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Davao del Norte ( PHP 7.4 million), cacao production for Sindangan Facoma Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Zamboanga del Norte (PHP 5.4 million) and coffee production, trading and post-harvest facility for Keytodac Coffee Growers Association in Sultan Kudarat (PHP 4.1 million).
According to PEF Partnerships and Programs Manager Dennis Omar Salvo, these projects aim to benefit 1,600 households.
“We put our focus on C4 (cacao, coconut, coffee, can sugar) communities and it just so happens that they, except for cane sugar, are abundant in Mindanao. Nandoon dun yung communities.” he said.
Salvo also noted that the Foundation will continue its efforts in Mindanao through focused area development approach for years to come.
“We will intensify our presence and our intended impact to selected communities,” he said.
PEF is non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to drive positive change in poor Filipino household communities by investing in social enterprises that will provide them viable livelihood and better access to basic services.
