Knowledge hub on sustainable energy launched

A knowledge exchange and implementation platform on sustainable energy was launched to link the goal of a clean and more efficient energy with better care and healthier communities.

Initiated by India’s SELCO Foundation, the renewable energy hubs or Sustainable Development Goals 7 (SDG7) hubs will spearhead building access to local energy ecosystems.

SDG 7 is one of the 17 SDGs identified by United Nations to address a range of social needs for a prosperous society while taking care of the planet.  SDG 7 aims to "ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.[1]

“We have to take technology and other solutions to the grassroots level, the whole process has to be translated into action for sustainable development in the communities,” International Solar Alliance Director General Shir Upendra Tripathy said.

Currently, there are seven regional hubs from countries in the global south, including the Philippines.

In the last quarter of 2020, the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF), SELCO Foundation, and the Ramon Magsaysay Transformative Leadership Institute inked a partnership to form a coordination hub in Mindanao to create opportunities for livelihood, education and health programs.

Marissa Camacho, who represented PEF during the launch, highlighted the importance of hubs in the achievement of the sustainable development goals.

“I cannot emphasize more on the value of collaborative platforms like hubs for a country like the Philippines, where climate change has been impacting the poor in the islands,” she said.

For its part, PEF will initiate knowledge transfers among local renewable energy players and spearhead sustainable energy solutions in its partner communities.
