Growing organic
With the convergence of leading funding institutions known as F4, the farmers in the Northern Palawan Corridor are not only helping in conserving the rich biodiversity in the area, they are reaping the benefits of successful enterprise through herbal and organic farming.
Formerly a Kaingin farmer, Merly Galvan Lagrosa is now enjoying sustainable income thanks to her organic farm that is supported by the Palawan Center for Appropriate Rural Technology, Inc. (PCART), the SE partner of F4 for Startrek.
“Sa isang buwan lang, mga PHP 25,000 na ang kinikita ko. Every week kasi, nagdedeliver kami (ng lettuce at arugula leaves) sa mga restaurant sa Port Barton,” she said.
She was able to renovate their house and bought a solar panel for electricity.
Lagrosa is just one of the many farmers in Palawan that benefitted from Startrek, a project that aims to protect the biodiversity of Northern Palawan Corridor while uplifting the lives of communities residing along the area.
