A solar power system has brightened the 107-hectare resettlement area in Calauan, Laguna.

On April 30, the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF), in partnership with the Angat Buhay program of the Office of the Vice President and the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, handed over the solar power system to the Don Bosco Technical Vocational Education and Training Center (Don Bosco TVET Center).

Don Bosco TVET Center provides technical-vocational education and training programs to serve the youth of the resettlement area, and livelihood opportunities for the community.

Technical providers Renewable Energy Enterprise, Inc., Solaready Inc. and Solar Solutions Inc., supplied and installed the 9 kilowatt-peak (kwp) on-grid photovoltaic (PV) system with total project cost of PHP 1.4 million.  This renewable energy solution is expected to reduce the electricity cost by 30% benefitting the training center and the enterprises in the resettlement.  The providers will train at least 30 Don Bosco students to take charge in the maintenance of the PV system.

This project is part of PEF’s commitment to provide market–based solutions to address the lack of basic service delivery among the poor.
