Cupping is said to be a powerful tool for evaluating coffees and broadening our palates.
Mr. Robert Francisco, Executive Director of Philippine Coffee Board Inc. (PCBI), not only educated participants about coffee but has given them the actual experience of coffee cupping, during the recent Good News Kapihan held in Commune Café in Makati City last October 6, 2017. Through the use of smelling and slurping, Mr. Francisco, a Q grader, and roaster showed the format in which coffee professionals use to evaluate the beans and roasts.
Representatives from media and Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF) had an actual experience of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee from Sultan Kudarat, Ilocos Sur, Davao del Sur and Compostella Valley.
The Good News Kapihan is a prelude event for 10th National Coffee Summit set to take place on October 24, 2017, at SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City. Ms. Pacita Juan, PCBI’s President and Co-Chair proudly announced that Dr. Dave D’Haeze, a Robusta coffee expert from the Hans Neumann Stiftung Foundation (HNSF) will grace the Davao summit, where he is expected to tackle the issue of climate change and its effect on coffee production that will help coffee farmers adapt to the effects of changing weather conditions.
The yearly-held Good News Kapihan and National Coffee Summit supported by PEF is PCBI’s avenue to gather coffee enthusiasts, and coffee experts to update the people, exchange views, and solicit feedback through the media, on recent coffee industry developments and related issues in the Philippines and abroad.
