In the interest of better understanding how to help grow the local coconut industry, the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF) participated in the 47th Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) COCOTECH Conference held in Bali, Indonesia on September 26-30, 2016.
Staying true to its theme, “Innovations that Promote Inclusive Growth and Sustainability of the Coconut Sector”, several breakthroughs in coconut research, production, processing, and technologies were presented during the event.
Speakers noted that the industry will remain solid in the coming years given the heightened consciousness on coconut’s nutritional, environmental, and social benefits. The importance of supporting replanting efforts, following stringent quality standards during processing, mitigating effects of hazards such as pests and natural calamities, and understanding the coconut market behavior in order to continue innovating were among the lessons highlighted in the four-day conference.
The Peace and Equity Foundation continues to support coconut growers and entrepreneurs as part of its 2016-2020 strategic agenda. PEF provides financing and technical assistance as well as capacity building support and marketing support to social enterprises which benefit poor communities such as those dependent on coconut farming.
